Re: Movie Thread
Yeah but the trilogy couldn't really have been much shorter. You've got three books to go through with a very dedicated fanbase that will get pissy if you leave too much out. I think the movies turned out as good as they possibly could have. It's a shame about them ruining Jackson forever but he did a fantastic job no less.
I don't think they quite established that movies now had to be overly long.

Re: Movie Thread
But The Hobbit absolutely didn't. Jackson forced it anyway so he could have his own terrible prequel trilogy.
Is Spoony dead yet?
Re: Movie Thread
Better than anything in the Nolan films. The dude made shitty crime movies that just happened to feature a guy in a rubber suit. They didn't even try to disguise Chicago.

Re: Movie Thread
Absolutely. LotR was three dense, fat books. The Hobbit was a single, slim book. LotR ruined Jackson as a director. He used to make cult classics, then he made the LotR masterpiece and that was basically it. It's still a miracle they let the dude that made Braindead tackle LotR but it worked out. He just has been useless ever since.da PAC Nigguh wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 3:57 amBut The Hobbit absolutely didn't. Jackson forced it anyway so he could have his own terrible prequel trilogy.

He's basically the George Lucas of (non-science-)fantasy in my book.

Batman is terrible, even for the time. It had Keaton and the badass theme and batmobile, but everything looks cheap as hell, the action is subpar, and that goddamn Prince soundtrack is the fucking worst.Moe Bitches wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 3:36 pm>putting Batman & Robin above 1989.

You kiddin' or somethin'? The only thing more awesome than those Prince songs was the Ninja Rap from Turtles 2.

Re: Movie Thread
Context is everything here - Jackson didn't even want to direct the Hobbit. It was up to Guillermo del Toro, but he fucked off so Jackson had to step in because they'd already hired the people and everything. At that point, the movie was *happening* and he didn't want it to be a total mess.da PAC Nigguh wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 3:57 amBut The Hobbit absolutely didn't. This is also why it became a Lord of the Rings prequel instead of just the Hobbit, cause preproduction time was far shorter than the years he spent developing the first trilogy. There was no time to come up with something more unique.
As for the length, Jackson said that since he was basically developing the films as he was filming them, he needed the extra time to work out the battle of the five armies, as he didn't feel comfortable shooting a final grand battle sequence that he hadn't even properly planned for yet.

Re: Movie Thread
I'll take the 1989 film over Nolan anytime. Burton made a fucking proper comic book film, and I wish people still remembered how to do that.Guest wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 6:40 amBatman is terrible, even for the time. "They Shall Not Grow Old" is an improvement over recent Peter Jackson - I wasn't really able to vibe with it, (its a WW1 doc but its almost completely structureless - really boils down to subjective preference for me) but at least he's experimenting again like in his early days.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 4:11 amAbsolutely. And to Rushy, yes, he didn't want to make The Hobbit - but the King Kong remake is bloated as fuck and that was 120% his fault.
