Re: Movie Thread
So, it seems Wonder Woman is the first DCEU movie to finally get rave reviews, but it all seems too late at this point considering Marvel dominates the capeshit market. Plus, those high review scores are awfully suspicious. They seem more like it's either out of pity coming out of the last 3 shitty DC films or how WB was essentially pandering to 3rd wave feminists given the current political climate we live in and it only managed to please the majority of liberal critics and desperate capeshit fanatics. I wonder how much they paid off critics to inflate the scores.
Either way, it won't matter going forward since WB already fucked up the DCEU's continuity with a rushed timeline of events to catch up with Marvel. Plus, I doubt Wonder Woman will reach or surpass 1 billion at the box office.
From what I hear, the first 2 acts are "strong and uplifting", but the finale is very weak and unsatisfying.

Yeah. I grew up on John Woo and the Heroic Bloodshed genre (gangsters blasting away with two guns). That shit was hardcore, like super ultra-violent and just plain cool. I can't even remember the last time a movie like that came out. 2001? Tsui Hark was the last one making those, and now everything's PG-rated cop movies or shitty kung fu epics about how awesome China and its military is.Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 2:20 amI used to love Hong Kong movies from the 70s though early '90s. Then just before the 1997 handover happened, there was a HUGE drop in quality. Most of these movies were unwatchable. It's said all the most talented actors and artists fled overseas because they didn't want to be part of China. Some of them came to the US, only to make standard Hollywood crap due to studio interference.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2017 4:24 pmSo no more stuff like Jon Woo's Red Cliff? That one was radder than any historical action flick Hollywood shat out this century.

Re: Movie Thread
Regarding Tsui Hark, I remember trying to watch The Legend of Zu and just giving up.
Boring, nonsensical, and with TERRIBLE CGI everywhere. And I really don't like this new generation of actors. All uncharismatic, unconvincing pretty boys and slutty brat bitches.

Stupid commies. They had like one movie industry that ever had a chance against Hollywood, and they fucked it all up <_<Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 2:20 amI used to love Hong Kong movies from the 70s though early '90s. It's hilarious how WB had like decades to ponder about some kind of continuity between their capeshit movies, but then they end up getting surprised by Marvel and have resorted to turn the boring Superman reboot film into the starting point of their cinematic universe.

Reminds me of Universal and their monster universe. Van Helsing underperforms, so fuck it. The Wolfman flops, so fuck it. Now we are getting The Mummy (2017). If it underperforms...fuck it.

It's being shilled to high heaven. A) because it's not outright awful like Cisbusters and B) because if you don't like it you're a sexistSeele wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 3:12 pmSo, it seems Wonder Woman is the first DCEU movie to finally get rave reviews, but it all seems too late at this point considering Marvel dominates the capeshit market. Wait, isn't The Mummy their first official movie? I know they considered having Dracula Untold be the first one, but that got jinxed real fast.Big Dick Jenny wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 5:29 pmReminds me of Universal and their monster universe. Re: Movie Thread
Anyway, sat through Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 today. Pretty crappy, but I liked the reinvented family Leatherface had, which included a daughter, a guy with a hook hand and Viggo Mortensen. Ken Foree was pretty swell too, shame he didn't get a chance to chainsaw duel Leatherface like Dennis Hopper in the previous film.

Don't forget that Palpatine has been retconned as a lightsaber villain.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 5:14 pmDarth Vader was really the only good Star Wars villain with a lightsaber. Everyone else is just underused.
I think Maul only had one line!VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 5:14 pmDarth Maul? I admit I have a soft spot for the guy, but he was just a random boss encounter who had like one scene where he talked for a bit.
...
Grievous? Sure, badass cyborg guy with four arms. Except Episode III makes him out as a coward with a ridiculous cough, a ridiculous accent and a ridiculous walk.
I hated Grievous, for all of the reasons you said. He seemed like a level-end boss in level one of some video game. George hilariously failed in making this character into a badass action figure for kids to buy (same as he did with that non-character Jango Fett). His character is total bullshit-- he's just some part robot-part lizard thing and yet he can best Jedi with a lightsaber?! IIRC, Obi-Wan had to cheat with a blaster to beat him, something the real Ben Kenobi would never do.

And also because... Have you seen the AAA movie marketing campaigns lately? Seems like absolutely everything gets ridiculous levels of shilling. These film execs are desperately trying to convince normies to pay out for tickets on every AAA "blockbuster."Keith Chegwin wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 5:38 pmIt's being shilled to high heaven.
