Remember when games had no voice acting? Or remember when the devs and whoever they could find did all the voice acting? Conker's Bad Fur Day didn't have a professional voice actor in the bunch, and it showed. But it was fun, and funny.

I also remember the other side of the coin, games that had terrible voice acting that make them almost unbearable. Tales of Eternia, for example, has absolutely terrible English voice acting, and it also sounds like it was recorded in a shoestring microphone. Compare with Tales of the Abyss, which finally employed some big name VAs and was much better for that.

You realise they've got to pay at least two sets of actors, and if one of the actors decides they're going to be a fucking diva and demand massive amounts of money to do the job then pretty soon they'll all be doing it and now the project is way more expensive than it would have been previously. This isn't Hollywood. This isn't TV and movies where you need actors and actors account for the majority of expenses. Actors in video games are probably the least essential part of the entire process.

Look at MGSV. Famously unfinished. Just imagine how much more of the game could have been finished if Kojima hadn't listened to ((Avi Arad)) and just got David Hayter back, instead of having to pay the probably high cost of getting (((Hollywood actor))) Kiefer Sutherland to voice Big Boss.
