Voice actors asking for exorbitant fees while being the least essential part of the process is probably the number one reason why AAA game production these days is getting more and more expensive while the end product gets to be more and more shit.

Remember when games had no voice acting? Or remember when the devs and whoever they could find did all the voice acting? Conker's Bad Fur Day didn't have a professional voice actor in the bunch, and it showed. But it was fun, and funny.
