Honestly, it is. Everything I wanted out of D&D I got ten fold running dungeons in WoW. I just wanted to tackle instances and kill creatures and get cool loot. D&D with all it's disgusting dice rolling, paper sheets, and imagination are gay as fucking fuck. 5e is the best because it simplifies everything down to a d20 roll and a relevant modifier bonus, but it was a double edged sword in that now it's accessible to women and normies. Now it's all literally gay as fuck because in a world bound only by the confines of the DM's imagine, it didn't have enough trans and womben. WotC should be fire bombed into a crater for this, and Gygax should be resurrected and executed again for making the initial game nothing but a spread sheet simulator with implications of monster rape. Sick fucks all of them.

In my opinion, the variant rules that AD&D had were the reason to play it. Having it be streamlined is pointless, since there are plenty of video games that offer the same kind of redundant gameplay. They’re masturbation, just like he said.

Best D&D is Rules Cyclopedia. No multi- or dual-class shenanigans, and there isn't even a differentiation between race and class. If you wanna play a dwarf, you're just a dwarf.
And most important of all, you get everything in a single tome, including shit later editions never really bothered with (like kingdom management).

And to top it all off, it is the final rendition of Basic D&D, the quintessential edition for the Mystara setting, a setting so based that they just ditched Drow for the superior Shadow Elves.
