Classical liar move here. People will know who the best [insert here] is, but the second best will be much less known and even agreed upon. And for his purposes that's perfectly fine: it sounds impressive enough to generate some clout, but it will not generate enough scrutiny to quickly be exposed as a fraud.

The internet has exposed a lot of those "OG" players for being shit, not just Phil. It's easy to claim you're amazing at a game when gitting good requires a lot of money and time. Almost all of those "big name" smash and street fighter players from the late 90s-early 00s were uber dorks who spent every dime they had going to tournaments where they'd play the exact same people over and over again. The internet has broken up that circle jerk.

It never gets old when Phil, a guy who brags constantly about being the best United States player at Street Fighter 2 super turbo or whatever its called, gets his ass kicked by random people online.
