In a socialist society? Laughable. Those doctors and scientists need to be paid the same as everyone else! We can't have some people making more than others because of insignificant things like value or incentive. A doctor will make as much as the literally retarded, pants shitting janitor.

Oh no, that's not at all how it works. Socialism is a three class system. You've got the peasantry, the nobles and the clerus. The church is replaced by the party. In the GDR that doctor could get a better car than you, get it much sooner, had a phone, could buy coffee and all other kinds of special allowances.

You're thinking too much about money. Increased pay means jack shit in socialism because there's nothing you can buy for it anyway. There is no such thing as equality for all. It's equality of classes. If you weren't of a wealthy family that strongly supported the party before the revolution, you were a fucking peasant. But if you were of such a family you were straight up in a much, much higher class than them.
Only way up was raising the ranks in the party. The greed for money is gone, the lust for power is doubled.
The high up party members need good doctors for themselves. Also scientists to build rockets and stuff. The party also likes having good athletes dominating in the olympics to show how great the socialist nation is.

The incentive is having more and better allowances. Being allowed to the holiday luxury places for the elites, getting to have a proper education for their children. Everything you could purchase with money before can now only be obtained by influence in the party.
Difference is that 95% of the population will never ever get a chance to escape their pleb status. If they engage in party business they will just be used as useful idiots, selling their neighbours to the StaSi for wrongthink in the hopes for a pat on the shoulder and a pound of coffee.

If you're really interested check out some documentaries about the GDR. It's the best example we have of a western world nation living under actual socialism.

I've read the Better Korea is trying something similar by building a socialist utopia city (built by starving peasants and their children, of course). That place will probably only be populated by Kim's BFFs and various extras pulling an IRL Truman Show (at least during those times they actually let in journos and foreigners).
