As for those stated needs, you have healthcare, schooling, a place to live and food. You're not Somalia. Provided you work at all you can have all those things. Maybe not the best in everything with the lowest effort but then we'd go from a need to a want, no?

But you could also give socialism a try. There are no off-days, there are two or three national holidays at best, your work isn't valued, what you make is worthless and the nation is going to go bankrupt in a few years anyway. Unless you're the top of the top of the tippy top your schooling is going to be "knowing how to read and write and basic math", your housing and food is going to be regulated and assigned and your doctors are going to fix you up just enough so you can go to work the next day or else.
You won't be homeless, though. That's not an option. You WILL work and you WILL have shelter. Might be the nearest lead mine, so be careful what you wish for. Socialism has zero chill for complainers.

This is what I'm always on about. Granted, capitalism can be exploited, but to me it comes down to many parties vying for profit and needing to appeal to consumers and pay their workers or they lose the game, or the state controlling everything and the consumer having to simply bend over and accept whatever they are given. Some measure of Freedom vs. Short term Security ending in dictatorship. I understand the appeal of security, but it's not worth whatever freedoms you DO have.

Oh no, that's not at all how it works. Socialism is a three class system. You've got the peasantry, the nobles and the clerus. The church is replaced by the party. In the GDR that doctor could get a better car than you, get it much sooner, had a phone, could buy coffee and all other kinds of special allowances.

You're thinking too much about money. Increased pay means jack shit in socialism because there's nothing you can buy for it anyway. There is no such thing as equality for all. It's equality of classes. If you weren't of a wealthy family that strongly supported the party before the revolution, you were a fucking peasant. But if you were of such a family you were straight up in a much, much higher class than them.
Only way up was raising the ranks in the party. The greed for money is gone, the lust for power is doubled.
The high up party members need good doctors for themselves. Also scientists to build rockets and stuff. The party also likes having good athletes dominating in the olympics to show how great the socialist nation is.

The incentive is having more and better allowances. Being allowed to the holiday luxury places for the elites, getting to have a proper education for their children. Everything you could purchase with money before can now only be obtained by influence in the party.
Difference is that 95% of the population will never ever get a chance to escape their pleb status. If they engage in party business they will just be used as useful idiots, selling their neighbours to the StaSi for wrongthink in the hopes for a pat on the shoulder and a pound of coffee.

Commie-kids confuse Socialism with Utopianism.

There is a key difference between Socialism and Liberalism. The former has cooperation as a dogma but produces the opposite in man while the later promises nothing. Infusing man with utopia has a better outcome than bending people toward utopia.

Liberalism worked out because it came into contact with reality at some point in the form of a free market and others trying to fix it via various economic policies.

If the Socialists actually cared about the weak they would not carry them like a weapon into the battlefield. God hates man because he is mortal. Our weakness is our strength. The Socialists haven't realized it yet but they are powerless without the weak. The weak become the strong. Socialism is Altruism in Decay.
