Re: Rekieta Law
Is there already a lawsuit between Funimation and Toei? I wasn't aware of it...

Funi pay them to licence their shit (and I assume they have a profit share agreement). If, for any reason, a studio suddenly decided they don't like Funi any more, they can just yank the licence, assuming they don't have an agreement that says otherwise. The Yu-Gi-Oh people wanted to do something similar to 4Kids because 4Kids were greedy kikes and basically hoarded all the licensing money for themselves, but 4Kids had it in their contract that the Yu-Gi-Oh people had to give them first refusal on any new shows, so they were stuck with them.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2019 12:35 pmWould any other studios dump Funi if Toei does? Other studios might not have nearly as much money but surely seeing the bitch niggas be bitches might dissuade at least somebody with entrusting them the rights for shitsubs and shitdubs.
Toei
Both
It depends. Toei might see that as misuse of their intellectual property. I've heard rumours that they're also not happy about this whole Vic situation. See, they like Vic and, from what I hear, they're the ones who personally requested that he reprise his role for the new movie whereas Cuntimation obviously don't want anything to do with him

They probably do, a contract to hold the license for a certain amount of years or the rigths to the dubbing for the upcoming Dragon Ball shows/movies/games etc. This sort of stuff ain't easy to just break it off unless there is a breach in the contract of course.Keith Chegwin wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2019 12:49 pmIf, for any reason, a studio suddenly decided they don't like Funi any more, they can just yank the licence, assuming they don't have an agreement that says otherwise.
And I know people will say they were misusing Toei's intellectual proprety... But weren't they just fucking around privately? hard o make a case when those audios were never meant to be in public.
Certainly this is gonna sour the already bad relationship Toei and Funimation have, but I wouldn't get my hopes up for this to be the killing blow on Funimation.

Nip copyright law let's the IP owner assrape any licensor suddenly and without lube.
When Aniplex opened up Aniplex USA they tore away all of Funi's Aniplex properties except for FMA 2003, which expired on its natural date at the end of that month. Now Fagimation is owned by Soyny so its all the same shit again.

Re: Rekieta Law
Well, in terms of Dragon Ball that's probably the case. But guest was asking about other companies and I imagine the situation there is done on a case-by-case basis. For example, Funimation licensed Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine in the US, but Discotek own the bulk of all Lupin III licences, including the two sequel movies for that particular series. Another example, when Bandai Entertainment went bust in the US, Funimation bought most of their licences, Sentai Filmworks bought what Funimation didn't buy and Bandai kept back most of the Gundam stuff and licence it on their own, more-or-less, to be released through RightStuf.rpgworm wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2019 1:06 pmThey probably do, a contract to hold the license for a certain amount of years or the rigths to the dubbing of the upcoming Dragon Ball shows/movies/games etc. This sort of stuff ain't easy to just break it off unless there is a breach in the contract of course.
So, in the case of other companies, they might very well be able to say 'You lot are a bunch of wankers' and pull their licences to sell to somebody else.
Well, whatever the intent they are public now and it's a whole different ball game.
Funimation have demonstrated incredible tenacity in the past, having stuck around while most other anime licensing companies went and folded. But they are grossly incompetent, as this whole controversy has shown. In my opinion it's a question of 'when' not 'if' they go out of business.

Re: Rekieta Law
Funi also got outbid on keeping the license for Evangelion by Netflix. Funi may have been king of US anime, but that's a small throne to have in the big picture.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2019 1:16 pmNip copyright law let's the IP owner assrape any licensor suddenly and without lube.

Istandwithvic is now speculating that Iago is Chris Sabat and Igor is the Funimation CEO, also part of Chuck Huber’s affidavit is being shown:

Goddamn. Chuck's best known for voicing Hiei in YYH and Android 17. Hope he's got a day job because that bridge is thoroughly burned.

Also Kamehacon's starts at page 64 with the messages with Soye starting at 75. Soye is getting nailed with TI.
Chuck's did have a couple of mistakes. Mainly on when Kai started and the defense can say a lot of it is heresay. But good job having the email showing Todd Haberkorn being threatened to lose his job due to hiring Ty.
