Apparently women in foreign countries are pushed by their families to go for the American/English/white dude from a first world country because they assume he'll take her back to his home country and she'll have a better life there. I knew a filipino dude who grew up in America and went back to see his family for a couple of weeks. The whole time, he was being set up with the daughters of friends of the family to potentially marry and take back to the states. Guy was barely middle class but to them, it was like a millionaire coming in and offering these girls the promised land, even though he'd never mentioned anything about going there for a wife, they just assumed he would want one since he wasn't married.

Men on the other hand are expected to be the bread winners so why would they try to be a gold digger to some white chick?

I don't wanna be one of those "we could have won in Vietnam," but we could have. Not that it would have meant anything, since I doubt the country could have been kept in US hands (the US was far away and the communists were right next door). Or that it would have been worth winning. The war was prosecuted so abysmally that our soldiers and the viet civvies were getting fucked over left and right. Doubt that situation would have improved.

But the US was supposedly very close to winning the war when we pulled out. The enemy forces in vietnam were much weaker at that point than we suspected. But that's the way war goes, doesn't it? It's easy to figure shit out in hindsight.

Unless you meant the korean war which I don't know anything about aside from MASH episodes.
