Treat every game as happening in different & non-sequential eras of the same world? (It starts with IV and ends with X)
What are you playing?

It's best to not play Zelda at all.

They give us important canonical knowledge about King Harkin's dietary and transportational habits.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 7:23 pmIt's best to not play Zelda at all.Where do Wand of Gamelon and Faces of Evil fit into the cannon?da PAC Nigguh wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 5:06 pmYep. Every Zelda game can be traced back to the CD-i trilogy. They are the heart of the franchise.
And supposedly all those Ivalice games are set in the same world, but I ain't buying it.
X is clearly a prequel to VII.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 7:18 pmTreat every game as happening in different & non-sequential eras of the same world? (It starts with IV and ends with X)

Pretty much. For most that is true even by the canonical explanation given in the book.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 7:18 pmTreat every game as happening in different & non-sequential eras of the same world?
But really it's just retconned. It's vidya, it doesn't have to make sense.

There's no deep space colonies yet in VII and Yu Yevon is the ultimate predator from the Pulse wildlife labs in the XIII-series. So X and XIII come after VII and X after XIII Time travel can't be involved because if YY could time travel he wouldn't need the Sin racket.
Plus the whole thing with the mecha.

Zelda is mythology, if you want to get all DEEP PLOTS about it.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 11:02 pmPretty much. Warning: Retarded DEEP PLOTS sperge ahead:
Every game has a main character called Link and secondary character called Zelda, a magic item called the Triforce, and most have a big bad guy named Ganon.
But every story is different, takes place in a different world and uses new gameplay features.
"The Legend of Zelda" is just a grouping name for all mythological adventure stories which happen under the same banner. They are not related.
It's best to think of Zelda like you would an oral history of adventure stories starring the ancestral line of King Arthur or some shit. Zelda has more in common with epic poetry than it does Lord of the Rings or Gay of Thrones, which are sequentially-told stories with consistent character lifespans.
I'd almost say the best direct literary comparison would be Robin Hood, but Robin Hood stories are more connected than Zelda is. Nintendo have never cared too much about narrative and Zelda is a fine example of this. You don't need some intricate Gay Theory connected world to make fun adventure games that share a few of the same themes.

Well, if you want to go full autist:
The Triforce is made up of three parts. Courage, Wisdom and Power. Every once in a while the avatars corresponding to one of the parts each will face battle, with the power one trying to gain supremacy and wisdom and courage repelling it to keep the balance.
Very simple stuff. A timeline was never needed. Those events could be thousands of years apart easily.
