But Freeza never turned good. He was faced with complete erasure and was promised something he wanted for fighting and immediately went back to leading his army as soon as the Tournament of Power was over. He also never broke character unless you count the part right before they defeat Jiren.

I guess the only halfway interesting idea might be a prequel story about Roshi as a young perv. Though since this wouldn't be anything like DBZ it will likely never be made.

Pretty sure there's a short segment in the original Dragonball where Goku goes back and meets young Roshi and it wasn't anything particularly special.

Helping Goku and friends is in itself breaking character. This is a character who would cut his nose off to spite his face, which is pretty much exactly what he did when he tried to kill Goku after Goku gave him some of his energy on Namek

He was offered the chance to be resurrected and all he had to do was prevent himself from being permanently deleted from existence. He made it clear he'd go right back to what he was doing after he was done with this.

No, that's Vegeta's character. Freeza never did anything but push his weight around and act like an impulsive idiot. He's basically just a bully. Of all the Dragon Ball characters to revive they picked the one who was 100% irredeemably evil.

If they wanted to pick old Dragon Ball villains to recycle it would have been better to use Cell who, with all of the heroes' DNA and a Saiyan drive to fight strong opponents, had greater potential for character development.
