ADV redub of Macross was the most pointless thing ever. They should just dub one of the Macross sequels that never got translated instead, like Macross 7 or Zero.

Those other Macross shows are in legal hell and can never be subbed or dubbed legally. This cabal of Egyptian con artists the Agrama family and their front company Harmony Gold claim to hold the all the rights. It's a big mess; you'd have to google it to understand it all.

Didn't the ADV redub happened before Harmony Gold(berg) decided to put an embargo on the Macross license? Macross II and Macross Plus both managed to be dubbed somehow back in the 90's.

I know the redub happened after that. I don't have those DVDs (I have the earlier sub-only AnimEigo ones) so I can't check, but I would assume they have Harmony Gold's name on them somewhere.

Yeah, I don't know what the deal was with those. I think they just did those on their own and ended up getting slapped down by Harmony Gold. I remember a deal with YAMATO Toys to bring their die-cast Macross Plus toys to the US suddenly got trashed by HG around 1999. That seems to be when Farouk "Frank" Agrama started suing everyone and the brief Macross revival died.

Doesn't stop them from trying to sue BattleTech whenever that IP tries to venture beyond the tabletop.
