Outside of wanting a suite instead of a regular hotel room, there's honestly nothing odd about that. I was on staff at a convention for a few years and even was part of guest relations one of the years. Travel and lodging expenses are considered the minimum compensation for any guest, and anyone who's half-noteworthy gets an extra fee on top of that, which would have (back then) been the case for Spoony.

Yeah, he pretends to be self aware to deflect criticism. I even found an old forum post of his on the comic hosting service he used where he admitted people have said his characters suck. This was in 2007. While he knows of people's criticism of him, he will blatantly ignore it anyway.

I love the screw ups videos because it's supposed to be about him admitting fault but he always does his best to try and say the commenters pointing out his flaws are wrong. Especially the first one.

He can claim to be a liberal all he wants but the reviews tell a very different story. Like that Lady Gaga comic about a guy cross dressing and it making him feel good, the review boiled down to "EWW, this grosses me out"
