What's wrong with buying Used cars outright? I understand some people want a shiny new car, but I've only had two cars in 28 years and they both lasted a long ass time.

That's why leasing is so great. Twenty years ago what you'd find on the used car market was rusty crap that was abused for 100k km plus. But when you lease a car you've got a maximum amount of milage per year, which most people chose on the low side since it's cheaper, and they take good care to not scratch it. Dinged up car with too many miles after the leasing contract is over? You'll pay big time.
Thanks to that you find three year old cars with zero scratches and low miles for cheap by the boatload. Buy used!

Renting a house is a waste of money. Buying it and paying off the loan costs about the same but you'll have something to show for at the end or can sell it. Rent is just gone.
