Actually they usually point to Schindler's List or Saving Private Ryan when they are talking about movies that are legitimately good, you must talk to much to "pop culture" nerds. I haven't seen Private Ryan for over a decade so I can't comment on it, but I have seen Schindler's List recently and I enjoyed it. It feels like Oscar Bait sure, but it's still a good movie but it does take a little while to get going.

The Tintin movie wasn't bad but Spielberg has been pretty shit for nearly 20 years now.

As long as their are kooks that try to deny the holocaust ever happened (I'm looking at you, Muslims), Schindler's List needs to be seen. If you already know all this (which most native Germans already have this info pounded into them), then you don't need to see it.

I disagree. If anything I think Kubrick's criticism of the film is very valid. He said that Schindler's List is about success (look at these 1000 Jews Schindler managed to save) whereas the actual Holocaust was about failure (look at how many Jews fucking died).

See, that's Spielberg's biggest flaw. He's a serial crowd pleaser. Even when he's trying to do 'deep' Oscar bait he can't help but please the crowd and give them the easy answers
