Yes. I wish I had known that back then. I stressed out so much. In retrospect it would have been better if I didn't try to fit in at all and spoke English all the time.

It really sucks living over there, to be honest. People treat you like a freak, the pay is shit, the hours are long, everyone is stressed and no one is happy. There's really only two kinds of dudes that want to live there:
A) The weeb. Wants to live in otaku land. Well, he'd better live in Tokyo if he wants access to all that shit.
B) Poonhound. Yes, if you're a white guy you can score much better women over there than in your home country.

Yeah, you see, all that weird stuff like that that you hear about is all in Tokyo. Maybe some in Osaka. The big cities everyone knows. I went to school in the Japanese equivalent of Alabama. It was largely an agricultural college.
The real Japan is absolutely nothing like you see in anime or manga. Even when you watch Japanese movies, you're only seeing (a warped version of) Tokyo. It's the same way when you watch American movies you only see (warped versions of) LA or New York and nowhere else.

I witnessed and experienced a lot of shit in my one year stay. I completely understand the hikikomori/NEET thing and the suicide problem now.
