While we're talking about the esteemed Steamtard community: I noticed a weird trend in regards to Nippon Ichi games. Visit the Steam thread of any of their games available there, and you'll come across multiple threads where the original poster is either paranoid about potential censorship, or on some kind of spergout because he was apparently so eager to bitch about censorship that he couldn't wait to check whether the game even has any censorship at all.
All of this is apparently because there are like two games in the entire Nippon Ichi catalogue with any kind of censorship. I guess a weeb's greatest fear is having some ecchi shots tinkered with.

Though actual censorship can also give you valuable insight in people's priorities, like when there was this uproar about third-rate JRPG Agarest Zero having a massage mode. They didn't cry sexism because it lets you grope all the party's waifus mind you, they cried censorship because the gaijin release removed the option to fondle the underaged elf girl (who looks like she's 8, or 12 at the most.)

Yes it does seem to have a lot of problems but Im a sucker for tactical games with Squad and commander management / development. Might try it if I can find some youtube vids of the gameplay.

Then maybe Battle Brothers, Xenonauts, Voidspire Tictics or Open Xcom. I've never actually played the first three (they're in my wishlist for forever) but I suppose they pretty good.
Also, I think SwordFlight (NWN module), KoTC and ToEE are pretty tactical but they more like RPGs rather than tactical game. I haven't finished any of them yet but I can confirm they're more than decent.

Nippon Ichi USA has a long history of censoring they're games (many of which aren't developed by actual Nippon Ichi), re-writing diolouge with shitty jokes (they renamed some bitch in an Atelier game to "Estee Dee", for example), but most damningly they break games with bugs that aren't in the nip versions and never fix them. I think Disgaea D2 literally melted your PS3 if you cast a fire spell. Cunts all around.
