South Park already covered this years ago with their Richard Dawkins two-parter. Religion is just a form of tribalism+community and you can come up with a million ways of combining those two things without invoking belief in whatever may or may not have created the universe.

People already separate themselves and practice tribalism on their own without using religion. Eliminating religion does nothing to remove tribalism. Besides, when you break down the root causes for conflict, it usually boils down to limited resources. Most non-trivial conflicts are about resources. Religion can supply justification or motive for atrocities, but usually it's only a secondary influence on the resource conflict. You could even argue specifically religious wars were still often motivated by resources.

When you think about it, it makes sense. Most people aren't willing to risk being killed unless the opposing force is some kind of threat to the resources they require for themselves and their families/loved ones. Religion is just an aspect of human culture. It is not the end-all, be-all driver of conflicts.

This was one of the things I realized in my few years as a militant atheist sperge, which pushed me away from a lot of those atheist groups. It's too easy to blame religion for everything. The truth is much more complex. Good people behave well and blame it on religion. Bad people behave badly and blame it on religion. Groups of people fight over what resources they think belong to them/they are owed.

We have higher intelligence, but the lizard brain mentality is still there.
