Back in the George W. Bush era, some polls revealed that while voters thought that Bush's opponents for President were smarter than him, they still LIKED Bush more. He was the candidate that you most wanted to "have a beer with", as it was often put.

Obviously, Newsom is aggressively positioning himself as a Presidential front-runner, but I don't see much Middle America appeal in him. Trump transcended his rich elite New Yorker image with voters due to his populist positions and status as a political outsider. I don't know if Newsom, who has neither going for him, can pull if off, but it might be entertaining to watch him try.

I don't know what's going to happen in 2028. It's still early. I've said this before, but I think this is a perfect time for an Obama-like dark horse to emerge on the Democrat side. The picture in my mind is an Hispanic male with a name like Mark Torres or something.
