to play devil's advocate, Ford's entire reason for wanting Han Solo dead was not because he hated Han on principle, but the fact that there wasn't much going on with the character.
Him convincing his son to redeem himself is dramatically powerful material, so Ford wouldn't have a problem doing that.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought it should have been called The Kung Fu Kid, Karate makes no sense in the title other than for name recognition.
