He either produced or his company did the effects for a buttload of films. Lucas was able to be involved with the moviemaking process without the stress of directing. He was consistently busy from the 70s until 2012.

Good points, Rushy.

I know almost nothing about Lucas's biography. I'd be curious to know If the success, and accompanying pressure, of "Star Wars" turned him off of directing.

This thread made me pull out "American Graffiti" last night. Great movie!

Lucas was meant to direct Apocolypse Now originally could only imagine how miserable of an experience that would have been for him.
