Exactly. Same as when he says autism is so much worse now than it was in ancient times. Because it was undiagnosed! They were called the village idiot instead, or just abandoned by their parents in the wilderness. "Simple" people have been recorded in history for ages. We don't know what the true percentage of people who were autistic in the Roman Empire is for the same reason we don't know how many paleolithic stonemasons died of fucking cancer! There was no way to measure those things back then.

Especially for borderline cases like ass-pergers... If you were a peasant with no social skills, the nobility didn't care so long as you did your fucking job reaping wheat.
