Hey guys, I'll keep this brief. I announced an update to go up on this day way in advance because it was going to be a major undertaking, and for a couple months, I was making excellent progress toward it. Unfortunately, as of just over a week ago, I've been hit with a major personal crisis that I have very little support in weathering right now, which has forced me to devote all my time and energy to keeping my life in order and my reawakened PTSD response under control. I'm not trying to make excuses mentioning this, it's just the way things are right now. I did my absolute best, but there isn't anything I can do about it in regards to the Kickstarter. I kept working on the update for as long as I could, but I'm just not able to get there right now. I'm in a really difficult place that I'm afraid I can't discuss publicly.

The best I can do is be transparent about what is in this update, for when it is finally ready, which I am not yet setting a date to, for reasons that I hope are clear given my situation:

Full breakdown of what went wrong for this Kickstarter and the lessons I've learned from the expectations I could not fulfill. The game will still be completed, but I wanted to make a full acknowledgement of how and why things went wrong.
The first 40% of the finished Lovely Little Thieves, free to play for everyone.
A second short visual novel (2-3 hours) to be completed as a free gift to backers at the $50 level and above. Its story is not directly connected to Lovely Little Thieves, but the genre/tone is similar.

These will all be present in the update as soon as I am out of the woods with this personal crisis and have my anxiety under control. Thank you as always for your patience and support.

Hey folks, I'm not able to set aside time for a detailed update on the project at this time (I will do that when I have something new to share or show), but I can clear up a few things.

1) I have no power to issue refunds through Kickstarter whatsoever. As I've detailed many times, the system they have for issuing refunds now is completely disconnected from the payment system they once used in 2014, and there's actually no longer a way for me to return the money through their system. I would have to just give people their money back manually, "off the record" I guess you could say, and I'm not going to do that unless I have actually canceled the project outright. I'm sincerely sorry about that.

2) The money raised for the game is not gone. Believe it or not, I still have a few thousand dollars. I don't have as much left over as I wish I did, but that original account still exists, and I still take care of it. I did have to use some funds from the account to escape a bad living situation a few months ago, and some more of it had already been used against my wishes by the other party in that bad living situation over the years. But every month that it's fiscally possible for me to put a couple hundred dollars back into that account, I do, because I still want to fulfill this project some day when I'm able. I haven't been able to because...

3) I don't want to go into detail about my private life, but seeing as the reality of my life *is* the entire reason I haven't been able to complete this project, I do feel obligated to give you some taste of that reality. I live a life without support from anyone, and it took me a while to accept that this has been the case for a very very very long time, even when I was denying that reality by escaping into deeply unhealthy relationships. I wanted to appear strong and capable and move forward with my life after a punishing childhood and adolescence that ended with me choosing to sever from my family, but I came out of that experience unable to respect or love myself, so I gradually surrounded myself with people who treated me the way I felt I deserved to be treated. I fell in and out of a series of awful relationships (both romantic and platonic) that took a lot out of me, and once I finally got some healthy perspective and realized they were destroying my life, it took much more time and effort to sever those connections, because I knew it would leave me on thin ice with nowhere to go. So now I live on thin ice. Lovely Little Thieves is a project that was predicated on the belief that I would have fiscal and emotional support and stability after leaving TGWTG, and I was disastrously wrong about that. That's the short version, but if you go back and look at previous comments I've left going back months and years about "things finally being over", those are hints of just how long I have been trying to leave a series of toxic situations (and failing, because it's incredibly difficult).

Right now, I am living the healthiest life I have ever lived in terms of emotional stability and self-respect, but there was a steep price to pay. I barely make a living wage month-to-month, and I currently live without the emotional support of family or friends. I'm not saying this as an excuse or to elicit pity from anyone. It's just the matter-of-fact reality of my life. I've made a determination to take care of myself on my own despite my lack of resources and my fear of the future, and to adopt stricter standards for who I associate with going forward, but it took a long time to extricate myself from all that damage, and until I can safely reach a more stable and supported place in my life, I have had to accept that I will not be able to devote my time to Lovely Little Thieves.

Anyway, one practical thing I learned is to never run a crowdfunding campaign that budgets money for every role on the team *but* your own, just because you feel that you don't deserve it. If I had sincerely raised money just to pay myself for seven or eight months of writing and coding, things would be very different today. I apologize for making you pay in time and energy for my crucial mistake.

In the comment-section some other sperg already archived (looking in no particular direction @VORP) Jesuo spun the yarn that allegedly Kickscammer was using Amazon payments during [current year -1], and their APIs no longer can process... she doesn't want to refund.

This is one hell of a change of pace compared to the comics because it is set in spaaaaaace.
Also there's a free 10 chapter (almost 18k words) preview. Fuck.
And the download link led me down a rabbit hole that blessed me with the preview of that one hideous western comic which I thought had been lost to time. Double fuck.

A western book, and it appears to take place at roughly the same time as the comic, since the ridiculously diverse team of heroes includes an "interracial and interfaith gay couple".
How are they "interfaith", you ask? Well the black guy with the gyborg arms worships the Greek pantheon. I probably should've catched that one sooner, but I somehow managed to just glance over the term "interfaith".
Oh, and the team's leaders are the historical abolitionists Harriet Tubman and John brown. I'm sure they'd feel honored to be in this mess.

(The ones on itch.io are all pay-what-you-want; I won't touch any of the video games because fuck if I know what they might contain.)

Time Corps 1st Edition
First of, I hate how itch.io popularized the idea of slapping a "1st Edition" on your tabletop book when a 2nd edition neither exists, nor is even on the horizon. I'm pretty sure none of the books that do this have ever actually gotten a 2nd edition.
And I can certainly see why it's free: It has 15 pages, no art, and there is no character generation. You will pick one of the 5 premade characters, and you will like it. At least they don't have a canonicaly genderspecialness, so you can pick what exactly a character is.
Oh, and it uses playing cards for action resolution, which is rarely a good sign.

Stellar Assault
One of two failed Kickstarters (the other being the first attempt at Niqab Troon). Probably for the best it didn't happen, as it seems to involve quite a bit of miniatures and cards. Now idea how to realize this at this small of a budget. I guess everyone was gonna be print-it-yourself? The rewards include "copies", which I guess were supposed to be physical?

Mansion of the Damned
Some barebones text adventure thing probably done in HTML - featuring random crashes!

Now what I should've probably mentioned earlier is that all of these comics start with some "dramatic" preview of events to come and then "rewind" time to the beginning.
Here it's a bit useless because of how weird and confusing the action is:


The first real page, and we're already getting bombarded with continuity nonsense. This comic apparently takes place after that western novel.
Also Saturn loves to name drop a Greek good every chance he gets. Because he' a "Hellenic polytheist", you know?

(He's also an "Olympus" like the Niqab Troon, so I'm just gonna assume he's an ancestor; Sure he's gay, but fuck logic.)

This one is also on the Kickstarter page, but I just love how static everyone is, and how weird-ass the black chick(?) looks like:


They party hard in the world's most empty saloon until they get rudely interrupted by weirdoes. I dunno why every other cowboy in this runs around with high-tech gear, but whatever.
Also for some reason, this is like the only page with any kind of shading.

(Did you get that he's a polytheist yet?!)

Long story short, these two have been sent by one of the vampire bad guys.
And one of them has a very stupid name.

Just in case you didn't understand Ash's highly-complicated powers, here's an entire page to say "I can teleport, bitch".

The barkeeper doesn't like fighting and throws them out after the fight is done.
Then again I'd love to see him stop them before, what with all the flaming swords and Nightcrawler action.
Speaking of action, is there a reason why nobody used a revolver? This is the Wild Fucking West. Everyone had one.


As the preview nears its end, we see the next agent of our vampire villain (who's just some old fart with in a uniform, so I won't bother showing pictures of him): A cyborg/robot chick who actually remembers that guns exist. She's on the cover and everything.
Also she's very confusing because she doesn't even look like she belongs in this comic. I'd bet 10bux that the artist for the rest of this comic had nothing to do with her.


And as a final stinger, we find out that Ash is a FTM and pregnant. - so Saturn can be Kobra's ancestor after all!

(Now you might be wondering where her boobs went in a world without surgery, or why the gay guy is attracted to a FTM in the first place. The answer is fuck you.)

Also something I should've mentioned earlier is that these comics like to end with this little manifesto.
Apparently these yokels things they are stunning and brave trailblazers because the creators are owning the shit they produce.
Except that was the entire premise of Image Comics.
Or more indie comics than I can count.
Or the entirety of the Japanese manga industry.
