I recently watched a surprisingly competent Indian action movie that felt right out of the early 2000s. It was actually quite nice.

RRR is super CGId, but I think what the appeal is that it’s fun.

Like our action movies are Fast and Furious and Capeshit and RRR is funner than any of that, just a pure distillation of joy. Anti-cynicism at its peak.

I prefer no CGI but I realize it's nearly impossible to film movies without CGI. Even shit like 28 Days Later had copious CGI to remove London traffic.
