Well maybe, maybe not. But I've never known anyone to pronounce the 'a' as in 'nadir' as anything other than a short 'a', as in 'had' or 'bad' or 'glad'

Not before this year, I think. If you can give me examples of this word being used in any American movies, TV, or other media from the 20th century, I'd like to see them. I contend this is some faggy British term that recently jumped the pond.

As for me the new dumb word is "nadir". Heard it last year for the first time, now it's used everywhere. Just say "low point", like a normal person.

Nadir is one of those words you see in print, but is almost never used in spoken English. We would just say "lowest point" or "rock bottom" normally. But I remember (print) movie reviews would use "nadir" a lot to trash bad movies. I.E.: "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier is the nadir of the Trek film franchise."
I think it's pronounced "NUH deer", but again, I rarely hear it spoken.
