Old Shit

This is pretty much dominated by gamebooks, aka Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books with stats and randomization.
Klessiks include the Fighting Fantasy series, as well as Lone Wolf and Fabled Lands, the latter two being free in one form or another.
Bear in mind that at least Lone Wolf has some trap options and choices. Gonna need some trial and error to survive.

There's also the venerable Tunnels & Trolls. Not a solo RPG per se, but there's been a lot of solo adventures for it, usually containing a condensed version of the rules so you can play straight away.

Newer Shit

If you just want some dungeon crawling, you probably can't go wrong with Four Against Darkness, which has you guide a party of four adventurers through a random dungeon. Has a fuckload of expansions.

For something more "narrative" there's Ironsworn. Though that one is apparently at least partially Powered By The Apocalypse, so there might be some cancer found within.

Then you might have non-solo RPGs bringing out a solo book/version. Like so and so.

Mostly gamebooks (thus the Lone Wolf warning).
And yeah, Four Against Darkness definitely sounds closest to what you're looking for. Haven't tried it out myself yet, but I have good experience with the developers.

I've been playing Gloomhaven both as a solo campaign and in a group with my brothers and a friend. It's pretty cool, but its more of a board game than a purely pen and paper choose your own adventure style game.
