The first one was a bit before my time, but my mom would watch the second one and I'd catch it a lot. In both his shows he was kind of the straight man, surrounded by crazy people.
Yesterday my mom was explaining how unique his comedy was when he first made a name for himself. I guess it's that "you had to be there" kind of thing.
