Normies like him, plus Hugh Jackmans gonna be in it. It’ll make a shitton of money.

DHI is proof you can be both a massive homosexual and a virgin. They're not exclusive. If you display both in large enough quantities you can qualify for mod status.

Everything Deadpool attempted to satirize, One Punch Man did far, far better.

He's funny because he knows he's a fictional character.
(At least the comic version. No idea if they kept that in the 3DPD version.)

It’s also a pet project for Ryan Reynolds, so it stands out from the design by committee Marvel shit.

The box office hasn’t represented quality for a while.

It's basically a wholly American production, so I'm putting it here instead of the Weebshit one.

Ultraman: Rising

Featuring Hatsune Miku, as all good movies should:

Now let's start with the bad:
I didn't much care for the original creature designs. The dragon kaiju looks to generic-fantasy-ish, and the robot that pops up later looks more like a cross between a Bayformer and a Pacific Rim robot. You can tell these were designed back when this wasn't supposed to be about Ultraman.
Speaking of mecha, the Defense Team in this one uses more generic military vehicles (with a bit of a futuristic vibe), instead of the goofy toy designs from the source material.
They certainly abused the "Wait, he's alive?!" trope a bit too much IMO.
Also no henshin device. That's basically unheard of outside of Return of Ultraman (aka the third Showa series). Do they hate selling merch?
It's also not really explained where exactly the Ultra powers come from, but I guess at least his dad is an alien? Maybe?

Now for the good shit:
Harking back at it starting out as not being Ultra-related, the general premise isn't very Ultraman. It's basically about a young man having to finally start adulting after becoming an adoptive single father, rebonding with his estranged father in the process. The closest analogue in terms of character development I can think of would be Shin aka Ultraman Dyna, who started out as a bit of a cocky asshole before mellowing out during his career as Dyna.
And of course there's the bit where he initially sucks at being Ultraman and does it more out of a sense of familial obligation, instead of being chosen for the role like usual.
Though not a typical Ultra story, I'd say it's well made, and you can tell the director worked in his own experience at being a parent. Not sure how interesting this would be to actual kids, though.
I also didn't expect a US production of Current Year to be so male-centric (without involving faggots). Aside from the kaiju there's like two major waifus in the entire film - one only existing in flashbacks and the other only really having one major scene. The rest is pretty much about the power of dads

The movie also did pretty good job at "show, don't tell", which is fine because I like movies that don't treat me like the average tumblr user.
There's like a bit where Ken initially hates coconut water, but after a training montage or so he starts liking it so much that he does commercials for the brand. And the main villain's motivation and backstory is explained in a short clip he likes to play to himself, and he only spells it out a bit more when a subordinate starts having doubts about their new strategy.
SpoilerShow
I really liked the reveal that the robot dragon is actually the original dragon. They expose a bit of skin and trust you to figure out that it has either been turned into a cyborg or Evangelion unit.

I also got some Father-Son Kamehamea vibes when Ken's dad helped him complete the Ultra Beam pose after he got his arm injured. That's certainly a new way of doing a beam combo.
There are of course numerous Ultra references for manchildren like myself, be it kaiju cameos or Ken's dad using the same type of crutch Dan/Ultraseven used during his time as captain and mentor in Ultraman Leo.
They even kept the classic tokushit trope of the ocean only going up to ankle height or so when you need to have a giant battle there. Unless the plot calls for someone taking a dive, of course.

Maybe if you're grasping at straws (that straw being him crying after like 2 months of parenting hell which also caused his baseball career to crumble to dust)?
There aren't even black people in this. The protagonist spent years in the USA, but everything in the movie takes place in Glorious Nihon.
I was initially worried about the main waifu, but she stayed in a purely supportive role. Sure she educated him about parenting once but she was like the only parent he knew outside of his dad (who he wants to avoid).
There was one moment where he alluded to getting bullied in school which had me worried for a second, but then he basically went "Hahahahahahahaha How The Fuck Is Bullying Real".

Either the team wasn't woke, or Tsuburaya was very about giving this the Ultra seal of approval.

I personally wouldn't start clutching perls until we get to US-produced live-action Ultrashit.
