Re: Basements & Beards- Analogue Gaming Thread
Seems the OSR community continues their transformation into a bunch of INs.
Sadly no news article of this yet, so you have to live with a YT video if you want more context
Dan Proctor sends a C&D to Greg Gillespie
So WTF are the players here?
Greg Gillespie
Dude's mostly known for running very successful Kickstarters for his various OSR megadungeons (aka dungeons so large and varied you can center entire campaigns around them; think Diablo 1).
This recent C&D happend as a response to him announcing Dragonslayer, yet another OSR retroclone (of the "Here are the houserules I used to incorporate the additional stuff from AD&D back into B/X, because AD&D itself is too convoluted and autistic to actually use" variety, which was the style at the time) tailored specifically to his megadungeons.
Dan Proctor
The head of Goblinoid Games, a pioneer of the early days of retroclones. They've been most notable for their clone Labyrinth Lord, but have also revived some ancient RPG properties like Starships & Spacemen (a literal "Star Trek TOS with the numbers filed off" game from the late 70s).
Dude has been somewhat weird ever since sometime last year. First he shut down Goblinoid Games (the name itself now just being a category on DriveThruRPG) and announced a 2nd edition for Labyrinth Lord, a preview of which he eventually removed from the store because people kept making fun of the amateurish layout and art found therein.
I think his mind kinda broke after Labyrinth Lord had been upstaged by Old-School Essentials.
WTF is up with the C&D?
Dan claims that Dragonslayer is using unspecified copyrighted material from Labyrinth Lord, which is hilarious since LL itself is just a ripoff of D&D.
My theory is once again that he has a few screws loose, and he's especially butthurt at Greg because Labyrinth Lord used to be the de-facto ruleset those megadungeons have been written for (the megadungeons never actually spell out that they are for a specific flavor of OSR D&D, but Labyrinth Lord is basically the only one they keep mentioning as a source for looking shit up; not that there is anything unique about LL's spell and monster list).

I think that's a nice cease and desist letter made for the bin.

So with 40K entering 10th edition and giving the hive fleet an overhaul I’m thinking about taking the dive and starting a tyranid army? Do I back out now or dive in?

AFAIK a major change is that your critters get buffed when within synapse range, instead of getting fucked if they're not.
They're also the big "focus" faction of 10th edition, which means new models and more attention (aka cheese) from the writers.
So I guess if you wanna go Tyranid, do it now?

Nope! And all true Voice. What got me interested is a friend may be picking up the new Leviathan box set and I considered buying the tyranig part from him since he’s a deathwatch vet. I found an affordable paint scheme and could build a decent army over time. I just don’t want to go balls deep in it just yet.

Sounds okay then. If you enjoy painting minis, you'll get your worth out of it.

Re: Basements & Beards- Analogue Gaming Thread
Far West (aka the Duke Nukem Forever of tabletop RPGs) is finally out!
And it's only 30 bucks for the 280-ish page PDF
And in other news: The absolute state of the Pathfinder 2e community:
Please rename Barbarians and Monks into something less problematic
Please offer censored versions of your books so I don't have to face my irrational pussy phobia
I find it kinda interesting that a phobia is considered quirky and a permanent part of your personality (even though you can pretty much cure yourself of arachnophobia in a day or so) if it's not a human-related phobia, even though its a thousand times more justified with humans.
A typical black/immigrant ally

"I love [thing]. I just don't want to actually have it anywhere near me where I can see it!"The funny thing is, I adore spider content. I'm so excited for jorogumo. Phase spiders, aranea and ettercaps were among my favorite D&D monsters. The pictures are just rough!
