What was the last genuinely good Square game?

Depends if you count the Saga series as Square games or as their own thing. Saga as a series only still exists because Kawazu is a bigwig at Square now and can force the company to release more.

The last Saga game was released in 2016: Scarlet Grace Ambitions. It is actually a good game. It's also a game you have to learn how to play, because nothing carries over from other jrpgs. Its systems are unique.

But again, that depends on if we count Saga as "Square" or entirely its own beast, which happens to be under Square's ownership. Because Saga is completely different from the kinds of jrpgs Square usually puts out.

If you mean the last good final fantasy game, probably FF9. FF12 is alright but even the international version is too flawed for me to call it "good." FFTA is fun but the laws are retarded and the gba was full of slowdown. Some people say Dungeon Encounters is fun but I haven't played it. Diofeld Chronicle seems bad but again, didn't play.
