Re: Get Woke, Go Broke Thread
I like what they did in Tales of Xillia: not only you can change the character you're controlling at any time, you're actually rewarded if you manage to do it mid combo for some crazy links.
On the turn-based side of things, my favorite system will always be Mana Khemia. You have a 3-character vanguard party and 3 more on the back row, and not only you can swap them during combat, after you unlock some abilities, you can tag them in after someone attacked or are being attacked, to either extend combos or guard (and every character has a different effect when tagging in for attack or defense).

The Atelier series truly is the gift that keeps on giving.

For party size, it depends on the game system. 6 is perfect for strategic top-down, turn-based combat, like the Goldbox games.
It's also perfect for blobber dungeon crawlers, especially when you have rows, like Might & Magic.
That's pretty much the RPGs I like. I don't care too much for group RPGs without rows.
For real time RPGs I prefer a single character, as well for Roguelikes.

Mana Khemia was a surprisingly awesome game. I played it a couple years ago and was very impressed.Le Redditeur wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2023 4:24 pmI like what they did in Tales of Xillia: not only you can change the character you're controlling at any time, you're actually rewarded if you manage to do it mid combo for some crazy links.

I agree that larger parties and row-based combat work really well together. It just further allows you to specialize and experiment with your units. You can focus on creating dedicated backliners with no hp, no defense, no attack, no speed etc and just dump all their points into magic attack.

Suikoden is another game with 6 party members and rows.

Re: Get Woke, Go Broke Thread
Is there even a real party at all in the new FF?
All the footage i've seen shows the player being in control of the protagonist, and no one but the protagonist.
Occasionally i've seen npcs giving off the illusion of helping the protagonist during the fights, but none of them looked like a permanent party companion you expect to see in these titles, even one who's controlled by the AI during the whole gayme.
It's basically a Tales Of with only one playable character, or a much easier (aka boring) Devil May Run Up On A Nigga (the guy himself looks like Dante with black hair and clothes), with a lot of Soyjima's cutscenes.

Because it's "Final Fantasy" in name only. It's a severely dumbed down DMC-lite, but with an overabundance of cutscenes & a retarded KH-tier semblance of a plot, desperately trying to appeal to gaijin normies. Even Mystic Quest had truer RPG mechanics.

It's all smoke and mirrors. They put just enough pseudo-companions into the game that they can claim there's a party, thereby making it a "proper" Final Fantasy game.Complicity wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 9:34 amIs there even a real party at all in the new FF?
