At didn't the game bomb hard?
Yes, because they threw themselves into the dust to the Church of SocJus and thus alienated their entire potential customer base.

I heard it wasn't even very good as a Build FPS. Too many hitscanners and teeny tiny enemies.

I'm holding good hopes for Cultic. Enjoying that demo really much. The challenge mode even more.

Ion Fury is okay but it really has a problem with weapon balancing in my opinion. Too many weapons serve similar roles (single target low to med range) while a heavy punch big ass rocket launcher or anything else of that magnitude is not available whatsoever. I guess this is supposed to let you know what penis envy feels like whenever you yearn for Duke's RPG or even the devastator.
Your "nuclear option" weapon is some lame frisbee that explodes into cluster bombs or something but it doesn't travel very far and more often than not is more hazardous to your own health. They must have been inspired by John Romero's masterpiece Daikatana. Bowling bombs are fun but too awkward to use most of the time.
Also Shelley desperately needed a quick kick option instead of "press q to switch to melee weapon (an unsatisfying night stick)", that's so lame.
Honestly like some of her one liners though. Especially "We're done when I say we're done!"
That never gets old.
The music is alright as well, the map design strikes me as competent more often than not.
The nontroversy was about some "gay joke" I believe, something like a pun on the Bengay product, which prompted them to prostrate to the church of woke.
In the aftermath, they actually did a 180 and put the reference back in and apologized to fans and backers, but too little too late and the damage was done. Maybe that'll teach them in the future (doubtful).
It's a trap!

Did they try to have a more "realistic" / contemporary modern shooter weapon selection or something?

I don't think so either. Like half and half?
I recall offhand the Loverboy, a revolver that has two barrels, then some kind of riot shotgun that can also launch weak ass grenades, the penetrator or something which is your run of the mill SMG that can be dual wielded like in Shadow Warrior and runs out of ammo instantly, and my favorite the "Ion Bow" that fires energy bolts which deal insignificant damage at all ranges unless charged.
There's more exotic stuff but it's either ineffective or doesn't have enough ammo to go around because I barely recall using them.
It's a trap!

What's up with "bow" fetishization, anyways? Crysis 3 and Nu Tom Raider also made a big deal out of "Now you can use a bow!"
It's like whenever some shooter-heavy franchise runs out of ideas, they add a bow or energy arm blade (the latter seen in Mass Errect and Soylo) or something.

Ion bow resembles a crossbow like ethereal crossbow in Heretic but point still stands I guess.
I always assumed that adding a bow and arrow weapon was the contractually obligatory minimum you had to do as empowerment for native Americans.

But they don't care about Native Americans. They're just adding it because promo shots with your main character drawing a bow looks badass or something.
