The new version of Quake is acktshually pretty gud too. It gives you the base game and all the (approved/official) episodes including Dimension of the Machine. Supposedly mods are also playable if you have a faggy bugthesda account but I wouldn't know about that. The modern console/pc version of quake by Nightdive has all the music intact and a suite of graphical options including a ton of filters and smoothing choices. Everything can be toggled on and off to be as close to the original as you want or as shiny and sleek as you prefer. I believe you get the Nightdive version for free if you have Quake on Steam (which is good because the Steam version is SHIT.) Or you can get it on GayPass or for $10.

Amid Evil seems super cool. Heretic was a cool game and still underrated imo. I'd like to see more shooters that step out of the mold with regard to weapons. It feels like a lot of them get stuck in the same basic rut. AKA Pistol, Shotgun, Assault Rifle/Chaingun, Rocket Lawn Chair, Railgun/Sniper, Grenade. Even if these weapon roles are tried and true, the weapons themselves should be more creative. Quake 1 has amazing weapons. Painkiller did a good job in the weapons department, but subsequent games were fucking trash and even the "good" one was too much of a pure arena shooter. I prefer when levels have a more organic feel than "walk into room, huge waves of enemies spawn." That kind of thing is fun for a level climax once in a while, but it should go back to more progression/exploration style after a bit.

Nightdive version of Q1 is fucking great and works wonderful, way better than buggy Blood which they dropped support quickly.
Also, don't worry, MS finally saw faggotry of bughtesda launcher and accounts, so they are nuking that shit and transfer everything to steam march/april.
