Also of all the characters, Vegeta loses to every character of strength in the series Who the fuck is he responsible for stopping?

I mean, does he ever really though? Like the initial battle where someone's stronger than Goku for 15 minutes (36 episodes) yeah but then he always comes back at the end. It's a shame because I like Dragonball and Dragonball Z and have nostalgic memories but Z especially really just has no urgency and none of the characters matter but Goku, like why have Chiaotzu, Yamcha, or Tien show up at all after the Saiyan Saga?

Even the Namek and Cell Saga's there's like 5 minutes where Piccolo is hot shit then that's just gone. It's also a little too much that every villian is the biggest baddest of them all so Freiza's the most powerful in the known universe, oh but wait his dad and his brother, oh actually no it's the Androids, psh you think the androids that are 16x powerful than the most powerful being in the universe who was 1/2 as powerful as his brother and father are powerfull? No it's this Preying Mantis WHO JUST GETS STRONGER AND REGENERATES, nah fuck that the worlds strongest, actually it's Kirby. And then the non-canon movies just fuck with that too.

Vegeta's whole thing is that he's fixated on Goku beating him to a pulp for five minutes, but he conveniently ignores the part after that where he turned into a Great Ape, trampled Goku's bones into powder and it took four of them to bring him down. Which is why Goku let him live.

It's been probably close to if not twenty years since I saw the series so authentically thanks for the reminder but ultimately doesn't Goku still saves the day because wasn't that when Goku used Kaioken which was the only way to match Vegeta's power and went beyond King Kais recommended (like 4X when later on he was doing like 32X) and Krillin used the destructo disc to cut off his tail?

But that was probably the last time the Z team actually worked like a Team with Chiaotzu taking out Nappa and there being consequence, with it being fine for Goku being the workhorse (main character after all) against Vegeta but everyone still playing a vital role other than distraction and episode filler. Also though don't they not have recollection of what happens to them in Great Ape form?

At least Toriyama realized it was pointless to try and make the C-listers relevant again. Other shounenshit like Bleach is way worse in that regard. It had like a human character who kept getting new upgrades, only to be roflstomped after maybe taking out some low-ranking goon.

It's probably a matter of training. Goku only really hulked out a handful of times and never really got to "master" this technique. Probably didn't help that no one on Earth knew wtf this even was.
Vegeta on the other hand is a professional Saiyan warrior who got taught the ins and outs of the great chimpout.

Yajirobe cuts Vegeta's tail. Goku's (somewhat failed) Genki Dama weakens Vegeta but it's Gohan falling on him in ape form that finally does him in
