And why the fuck are there My Little Pony characters in a Rescue Rangers movie?

The furry bait of the past must join forces with the furry bait of today.

Did they really go with the "cartoon characters as real actors who lose their jawb, hilarious!" angle? I always hated that. I guess Roger wabbit is an okay movie but at least it was built around that kinda concept.
Plus it had Bob Hoskins, and this rescue rangers movie (show?) ain't got shit.
It's a trap!

Aside from the random crossover Roger Rabbit, it's really a combination of several methods to make a lazy film adaptation:

Dump the characters in the "real" world: It's cheaper to film, probably less "silly" than the character's actual setting, and you don't need to waste precious time on doing research.

The breakup: A good way to waste screentime with generic plot beads is to make it so the protagonist had some kind of falling out / breakup at the start of the movie, or potentially years before the movie even started. This also helps to not confuse normies too much, as you can further waste time by focusing on each individual protagonist in their own little sub-plot, probably in a weak attempt to make the characters more "mature".

No idea how much of the latter is in this, but it definitelly reeks of a variation of the former.

It also combines another gimmick that's popular now: The Memberberries. Excessive referencing to old shit to gain interest from nostalgic manchildren, as used in Ghostbusters Aferlife, Space Jam 2, Ready Player One etc.

But where does this "Original IP was fictional and this is a meta-universe" angle come from though? So random and out of place, was expecting something like the live-action adaptations of Scooby Doo, Garfield and Alvin that follows the same plot as the original just with updated visuals.

I assume it is the laziest possible way to explain these crossovers. Plus it let's you ignore all involved settings in favor of your own.
And I guess Wreck it Ralph did something similar, except limited to video games?

Also: What are the odds the actual main character will be a (hopefully diverse) Original Human Character (another favorite for lazy adaptations)?

Ironic how they make fun of bad CGI models when the films "toons" are 3D models made to look hand drawn artificially, so they don't look authentic either.

From the sound of it, this movie probably started out as a Roger Rabbit sequel that got shelved & eventually repurposed with the "Rescue Rangers" IP for the hell of it, getting dumped on Disney+ since they know it'll inevitably suck. Seriously, the whole premise could've been a better fit for the cartoon rabbit considering how the first film had a meta angle as opposed to Chip 'n Dale out of nowhere.
But that's just a theory. A Film Theory!
