Only now due to constant peer pressure have I finally watched Cowboy Bebop.
I found it highly overrated.

Yeah. If you've seen Lupin III or Cobra, you've seen this kind of thing already.
It's a good show, but not "best anime evuh" like many noobs like Doge Walker claim.

It's a good show, but not "best anime evuh" like many noobs like Doge Walker claim.

The only reason these plebs claim it's the """greatest""" is due to the likelihood that the show was their first real exposure to dark/moody/stylized animu, likely because they grew up watching Toonami (hence the nostalgia bias) and/or don't watch that much animu to begin with. It's only ever highly rated by baka gaijin anyway. Off the top of my head, I can already list half a dozen Japanime better than Bebop:

• Fist of the North Star

• Cyber City Oedo 808

• Gurren Lagann

• The Big O

• Outlaw Star

• Trigun

At least those were more fun with higher rewatch value.

I mean yeah those are better written and more entertaining, but at the same time, like what Voice said, it's just the right amount of normal that just about anyone can watch and it's not a complete Japanese inside joke.

It shouldn't be left in the dust just because those are better alternatives. It's far from being the best but it's up on the list.

But I'm also the same person who had to watch 4kids OP as one of their first animes.
