Oof, that part where Cid dies is horrifying. From the way he goes silent and Celes calling him, to her attempting suicide, jeez. Give my poor feels a break.

That entire transition from World of Balance to World of Ruin, starting with the Imperial betrayal and General Leo's death, is very heavy. And I think it really doesn't ever get better, because the entire gameplay of the World of Ruin is full of loss, destruction, demons wandering around, and the ending doesn't really provide a way to fix any of that besides getting rid of Kefka and his "Light of Judgment".

To be honest I never finished it. Maybe when I'm done with VII I'll go back and play VI again

I'd also like to highlight FF5:

In what Current Year Squeenix would probably turn into a Dissidia-style fight scene followed by sad music and slowed down animation,s we have main bad guy Exdeath clowning on the entire party until Galuf decides to pull a Kamina and save his friends and granddaughter.
It's probably the most cinematic the game's engine gets, with people getting thrown all over the place and you entering a 1-on-1 fight against Exdeath that you can't lose because Galuf just refuses to die no matter how often he gets one-shotted.
Then he dies for real, as the rest of the party pumps him full with every healing and reviving potion/spell they know.

There's also a neat scene (later on I think) I sadly can't find were Exdeath just starts nuking towns for fun, with the scene switching between the world map to main character Bartz at the helm of the airship, as he can do nothing but cry out in frustration and impotent rage.

For FF7, they basically had to extends this scene with Aerith's mother. Not only because they're in love with muh cinematic graphics, but also because every single minute counts if you insist on remaking the first 2 hours or so of a game into a standalone title.

This is why remaking the game is such a shitty hack idea that only the shitty hacks that Square Enix are now known for being could have come up with. Best case scenario when you do a remake is you make the same game with better graphics and maybe people would rather play that version than the original.
And that is what many people have been saying for as long as people have been fantasizing about a FF7 remake.
Unfortunately Squeenix decided to listen to the idiots that always popped up during these discussion, who have convinced themselves that the game had so many towns, quests, monsters etc that anything fancier than early PS1 graphics would make it impossible to contain all of this content in a single game.
Of course, they mainly listened to these folks so they can have another Kingdom Hearts and milk this cow for at least 2 decades.

Final Fantasy had tragedy incorporated into their storylines from around FF2 onwards. FF2's story is much better than you might think, judging from its age. I played that game not too long ago and loved it. But it is important to play one of the ports/remakes and not the original nes version. The nes version apparently has a lot of spaghetti code and big problems in its gameplay.

A major "feature" of the original is that trying to improve your stats in one direction can reduce them in other directions. If say one of your mage-type characters runs out of spells to cast and is forced to hit stuff with a weapon, he would actually become a worse mage as his combat skill improved.

I mean, one of my big problems with the remake is they're looking at it through a modern lens. You can see this in the visual style where they've tried to make the game and the characters look as realistic as possible, like a lot of bad remakes try to do, instead of trying to make the game look like they imagined it in their heads back then.

I mean, going back to Ocarina of Time 3D. Nintendo could have made that game look like Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword, but they chose not to. They chose to make it look a lot more like the concept art and the experience is ultimately more satisfying for it. It's as if you're playing the game the way Nintendo envisioned it but didn't quite have the technological ability to make it back in 1998 or whatever.

Square Enix on the other hand, try to make people who look like this

That wasn't too surprising. Squeenix has been obsessed with giving their characters hyper-realistic (aka ugly) faces for their FMV sequences ever since the PS2 days, and advances in technology have only caused them to apply that shit to the in-game graphics.
Weeb rantShow
FFS, they even ruined Hatsune Miku that way in a collab.

Absolutely disgusting.

Ahh, much better.

Still superior even though it's something Crypton has cobbled together themselves instead of Sega (or Squeenix).

I blame gen z soy retards eating marvel shit for all of this.
Nowadays, everything must be spelled out with big letters, because if it's not, people in their retardation can't understand the plot and complain it is confusing.
Great example of nowadays retardation is Dishonored. Game left no fucking doubts that Emily is Corvo's daughter, and yet retards were trying to figure out who Emily father was and there were huge discussions and speculations. That's why in 2 they straight out spell it out for those retards that yes, Corvo is father, like even devs were fed up with those twats. Or "shocking" revelation of MGS5 and people being shocked about the huge secret of main character, even though anyone who played previous games had some idea it couldn't go any other way without raping timeline further.
Subtlety is dead and even virtue signalling is not even trying anymore - it's signaled with horns right into your ear.

Soyboys are just suckers for wasting time with wild theoryfagging. Also popular for online news sites to make some quick clickbait articles.

Yeah, I loved Dishonored 1, but I couldn't finish Dishonored 2. The story was a big step back in every way and I really didn't enjoy the shift in color palette away from watercolors and towards DUSTY TAN AND BROWN!!! IT'S A MODERN GAME!!! LOOK AT THESE HIGH DEF GRAPHICS!!!
Image

Dishonored 1 was a dark game at times. In that missions often took place at night. But it was not sepia-filtered tan and brown.
