In Sydney they went overboard by banning ride sharing companies from driving people into the CBD or face a $500,000 fine. The guy who organised the "illegal protests" is being thrown in jail for 8 months. They then had the nerve to say this:

“Police have previously indicated that we’re not opposed to free speech,” said Deputy Commissioner Mal Lanyon. “We are absolutely opposed to a protest that potentially jeopardises the freedom of vast majority of the community who continue to do the right thing.”

Australia continues to be a joke. And BTW, the "illegal protest" thing is not a recent thing because of Covid, we haven't been allowed to protest unless the government approves it for a long time now. Most people didn't know this until now because they would let protests go ahead since they didn't do anything.
