The average attention span of kids to their favorite toys is measured in months. Even if these new Legos only last a few years, that's still way longer than any kid will care about them. Collectors and other manchildren, however, would be at a terrible loss.

Although I suspect that a Lego brick that lasts only for a few years would be a huge loss to the company, since they wouldn't be able to just repackage old, unsold sets into new, brand-of-the-month ones. I mean, what else would they do with all those Star Wars Rey Mixer Palpatine Skywalker® sets?

What made LEGO great as a toy was that you can just hand it down. Throw the bricks into a net and the washmachine even if they are dirty.
I had a massive 20 kilo box of LEGO bricks that was handed down to me by a cousin and later on I handed it down to a younger cousin myself.
I thinks that's the issue they would have as I never had new LEGO, except for a few Technic models.
