Movie Thread
Re: Movie Thread
I'm surprised Bond hasn't been cancelled yet, or that crazy woke Barbara Broccoli hasn't outright vaulted the pre-Craig movies for being racist and sexist.

Re: Movie Thread
Been in a Jean Pierre-Melville mood. Alain Delon could have totally played Bond, he's got that steely look of like Dalton or Craig - with the seduction abilities of Brosnan and Connery. Le Samourai - great fuckin movie.

Re: Movie Thread
I should watch that movie again. I only saw it once and wasn't very impressed at that initial viewing.
I've been watching a lot of kung fu movies. Maybe I'll add to that thread when my thoughts are more coherent. Inb5 that never stopped me before.

Hey man, I said I should watch it again. I remember at the time thinking it and The Killing weren't as good as I'd been led to believe.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 3:01 amYour taste is shit and you're an idiot.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 2:44 amI should watch that movie again. Re: Movie Thread
I can't begrudge Tictac. Le Samourai is *very* slow. Melville has no problem taking his time, but what I like is that the slow pace makes all of those characters feel real - like Cinema Verite damn near.
Maybe its pretentious to compare the movie to one of Hemingway's books - but that's what it reminded me of, (i.e. how Hemingway can get four hundred pages out of like two days of story, and Melville can write a simple story and make it two hours and make it work.
I've seen a lot of Kung Fu stuff recently, too - saw Enter the Dragon again. Its a shame those kind of movies don't get made anymore, because it seems like a simple enough formula. You get a director who can direct action, actors that have some charisma and personality (which Bruce Lee had in spades) and once you've nailed those two aspects, you could fuck up the script and any other aspects and probably still produce something watchable.

Re: Movie Thread
The studios who made most of the kung fu movies (golden harvest, shaw brothers) are no longer around. A number of kung fu stars died young, too. Enter the Dragon in particular was a case of lightning in a bottle. No other kung fu action star had the power and magnetism to pull together that kind of global project.
I think kung fu movies died a kind of death similar to westerns in the USA. Interest waned over time and period martial arts films came to be seen as passe in their own countries.

Once this happens, Bond will never be allowed to be whiter than Obama.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 1:24 amThat's why they are replacing him with a black whaman in the new one

Autism attracts more autism. Sooner or later, an internet nobody will attract the exact kind of fans - and detractors - he deserves.
