What are you playing?

Talk about the life consuming, celibacy inducing hobby that is all the rage these days.

So I've also gotten my hands on Troubleshooter: Abandoned Lolis Children.
incoming spergShow
The combat system is very XCOM, right down to the spastic camera trying to make the "action" look more kewl. Thankfully you can turn off all of this shit.
There is however a bigger focus on melee combat, what with many named characters being melee-centric.

One thing I find to be a clear improvement over XCOM (at least the first; no idea if the second one fixed this as well) is that you can actually ambush enemies.
In XCOM, as soon as a new group of aliens comes into view, they immediately notice you and get a free movement action to take cover.
In Troubleshooter, it is much more likely that you spot the enemy without them noticing. The game even highlights squares which fall within their line of sight. This lets you move all of your guys into position for some lulz, especially in combination with Overwatch (though that ability is sadly not as universal as it is in XCOM).

Another need feature is that you usually get generic cops assigned as backup. They are expendable, your earliest source for Overwatch, and providers of free health potions and hand grenades.
There's also some fun pottery going on, what with those cops being much more XCOM-esque while the actual protagonists are these shounen animu dudes and dudettes.

World building is somewhat weird. They explain enough about the city this is all set in, but I'm not sure if this is set in some modern day fantasy world, or the near future. Every single protagonist can just use magic, but it's never really explained.

The most confusing part is that this game has some Korean MMO mechanics for no reason other than it being mandatory I assume. Your characters have like a stamina bar that goes down with each mission and can be restored with food or just letting time pass in real-time. You'd probably have to grind for an entire day before this shit can actually run out.
Switching out your Masteries / Not-Materia also costs you some special resouce, but you get about two orders of magnitude more of that stuff than you'd ever use up. Not sure what the point is, really.

You could've just played Jagged Alliance instead.

Does Jagged Alliance have Leo Kliesen with chain lightning? I don't think so.

I'm wrapping up my 108 stars run of suikoden 2. Already gave my thoughts on the game overall. It is longer than Suikoden 1, so that's a plus if length is a big deal for you. But I prefer a game be replayable and Suikoden 1 is much more so than 2. You're given much more freedom and railroaded far less. I also like the story of 1 better. Thanks to the rune your main character has, every one of your friends and family members at the start of the game can end up dead, depending upon your choices. The main character in suikoden 2 gets a generic good goy rune with light magic in it. Bleah. Both games have an annoying side character who is forced into your party, but Gremio gets owned by flesh-eating viruses before long.

Suikoden 2 has more minigames, but I consider that only a negative. The war battles in 2 are more full-featured, but also much slower than war battles in 1. A net loss.

But at least Suikoden 2 has Gengen and Gabocha.

I don't suppose this banana republic also features a faction of religious fanatics called the Spoonists?

I’ve been playing AVP Classic 2000 (weird title) lately, man I forgot how spastic the movement is in PC FPSs from that era. It’s nowhere near as good as the sequel, but it’s not bad. The Pred is worthless with the wrist blades though, for some reason the hit detection is shit on them, I spend most of its stages blasting through everything with the shoulder cannon. Marine is fun, and the Xenomorph is awesome but fuck does it move way too fast. The animations are hilarious on enemies bugs though, when they walk upright it’s funny as hell.

Not gonna lie, the first Xenomorph in the human campaign freaked me out more than it probably would in that newer Alien survival horror game. Not because of mood or atmopshere, but because the fucker was aiming for my guts at the speed of a race car.
