To add to that, alcohol is mildly toxic. So it's completely understandable why drinking copious amounts over long periods of time would cause stomach irritation conditions such as acid reflux. It's well-known that many drunks refuse to eat or eat very little because it causes them distress. Drinking does too, but they do it because they're addicted.

Whenever Spoony talks about how there's no food in his house or mentions a stomach-related ailment, I just think of how many empty bottles must be scattered around him.
