This. I think one of the things that truly broke him was that he had this *great idea* on making videos about D&D and other tabletop games, which, to be fair, not many people did back then. He then did a video or two on 5th edition, declaring it the worst shit ever in his holier than thou attitude and acted like he was the total authority on all things rpg. What happened then? The world embraced 5e, D&D became more popular than ever and hundreds of (way better) channels popped up filling in that rpg 'void' on YT. Then Spoony just sat there, having missed the boat again by shitting on the book that would unexpectingly blow up tabletop rpgs worldwide again. All because his ego could not handle liking something that did not come put before 1998.

Everything comes back to him. 5e is just some new edition of the game, the games he played were HIS games and thus the best. Everything about him and his life is the best ever. he also just straight up doesn't play tabletop RPGs so most of his show consisted of him regaling us with 20 year old stories from the 90's or flipping through books. The most obvious thing in the world would be that he actually plays games and turns that into his show. Clips from the games, recaps, funny stories, news, etc. That would involve other people though, and Augustus Flavius Spoonicus Magnificus Rex won't have that. He will either sulk in solitude or be worshiped as a divine god. He'll accept nothing in between.

I think he was just being a contrarian. 5e was pretty well-received by DnDtards.
I'm also pretty sure he had pretty good things to say about 4e, which DnDtards didn't like.
