The free will argument is ultimately bullshit anyway. Much like human rights, even if it doesn't exist, we have to act as though it does. Whether I have free will or whether "I" (my perception of myself) is a conglomeration arising from multiple systems acting to produce a delusional state, it doesn't matter. I can only act upon what is put in front of me. The purpose of life is to propagate itself. That is also the purpose of intelligence (namely, to solve problems which would prevent passing on of genes.) Any other meaning you must create or find for yourself. Complaining about a supposed lack of free will is pointless. Go bitch to your DNA about how bad they fucked you over, I guess.

I have never met someone who genuinely believes free will does not exist, who does not also act as though free will does exist. Daniel Dennett is a great example. He makes argument after argument in favor of no free will. But then he goes on twatter and sperges about how Orange Man bad. Well if there's no free will, how can anyone freely select in favor or against Orange Man? How can you castigate those who believe in God or who believe in conservative viewpoints? They have no freedom to choose and their beliefs are a consequence rather than a selection.

That's the ultimate failing of the free will argument. If free will does exist, we should act as though it does. If free will does not exist, we should act as though it does. Therefore, my conclusion is the question is irrelevant. The answer is irrelevant. Free will exists because we say it does, even if it does not.

If I'm not mistaken, it's indeed frowned upon in philosophy. Not because it's unknowable but because it's without consequence.
Us all being AI in a simulation would change nothing. Life is the same, consequences are the same and it's impossible to verify or disprove.

Because the choice is based entirely on cause and effect. You come up with the choice to spite Spoony(aka an external factor) and whether or not you do walk around the block depends on the personality you have, which is the accumulation of years of decisions also caused by external factors.
