First off, your broke ass can't afford a Victorinox Spirit.
Second off, I've been carrying one for two years and in the last two years I carried a Leatherman Charge. Daily! Both bit holders, the extension bit an in the remaining side pocket a Multipick jackknife lockpick plus two wrench tensioners. I also always carry a fixed blade knife.
The blades on the Leatherman are not an afterthought. The main blade is made from S30V, which is a very respecable steel, the other is a serrated one with a hook blade.
I've used the tool and just about every function constantly and it has saved me a lot of running around to the tool box.
The blades are great to cut shit you don't want to ruin your actual knife with or if you're around people that would get weird if you draw a full-sized combat knife.

It's a soft steel for sure but it's intended to be a very small pocket knife that is super care free. It never rusts and you can quickly sharpen it on the underside of a mug.
A blade that dulls easily but rolls at failure and is easy to sharpen is often better than a blade that keeps sharpness for a long time but breaks at failure and is nearly impossible to sharpen without diamond stones.
What are you going to do with S90V or M390 in the field if it gets dull? Fucking nothing is what! But that "shitty steel" of a Victorinox takes a few careful swipes on a mug or even a brick or a rock and will at least cut a few more ropes.

It's like asking why you'd have a regular hammer when sledge hammers exist or why you'd have pocket knives when kitchen knives work as well.

But what's the point? One without a blade for flight? They exist. But he doesn't need them or any tools for that matter in the same way a submarine doesn't need a fly screen.
