For example, on the original Star Trek, every step of creating the show was on film, so it was pretty easy to create an HD version. (They chose to redo a bunch of the effects in CGI for some reason, but it wasn't necessary for this show.)

They mainly replaced all spaceship and planet models, with the most apparent difference being in the planets since the old ones were like glowing balls with no real geography.

Yeah, it looked like a show from the 60s. The new version looks like a show from the 60s with random Playstation 3 cutscenes spliced in. (At least the Blu-Rays let you watch the original versions.)
