If I have to download a torrent and jump through all of these goddamn hoops just to watch a damn video, you might as well buy the shit. Plus you wouldn't have to worry about the quality.
Yeah, what the "muh torrents; fuck physical media" fags never mention is torrenting can be a pain in the ass; long download times, having to worry about the quality, and viruses, whereas with physical media you just buy the disc and don't have to waste any time. Plus it's nice to own a proper copy of a film that you like, and sometimes a certain DVD or blu-ray will become a valuable collector's item.

Bitch making a rutracketr account isn't hard. You can have all the Nipponese bluray sourced transcodes you want. Fucking hell you guys are dumb.
Rutracker doesn't have everything. Also, it's very rare for home video extras such as interviews and making-of documentaries to be included in a torrent. What do you hardcore torrent fags spend your money on anyway? You can't expect me to believe you save it all up for important stuff and never waste it on entertainment or hobbies.

Hard drives. If I was rich I'd have a LTO tape drive and I'd maybe buy media for ripping or scanning purposes.

You describe torrenting like DSP describes doing something or like how linkara describes making voltage vengerz. This isn't rocket surgeon. And the "it might become a true and honest collectors item" bullshit is stupid. That's unlikely for any current year consoomer media product. At best you'll get some artificiality scarce bullshit that's gonna be a straight lateral move when you pawn it off to some other dipshit on eBay.

I was trying to specify the Nipponese BD set of Columbus but forgot to say it in a fit of tism.

No he isn't. I understand exactly where he's coming from. I recently spent a lot of time on the torrent sites looking for films so I could rip the sex scenes. A lot of the time the torrents were so old there were no seeds, or there was like one seed and I had to wait a week to get it downloaded enough to the point where I could confirm if what I'm downloading was actually what I want, or the source quality was shit or the torrent itself was damaged etc.

I'd have had a lot easier time if I just went and bought the films in question. But I don't pay for movies I'm only interested in fapping to.

Who said he was talking about [CURRENT YEAR] consoomer products? Stuff made for enthusiasts, like Criterions, can be very valuable. Especially when they go out of print.

Very cool. But I already told you that I have what I want. Unless you're implying there's new stuff even worth watching.

Spoken like someone who only torrents shit that just came out. Like the other guest pointed out, it's common to run into old torrents that have barely any seeds, and it can take several hours or even days to download that shit, and during that download time you're not even sure if what you're downloading is worth it. Also, I'm not completing dismissing torrenting; I'm just pointing out it's not the perfection that you hyperbolic /tv/ fags make it out to be. Just as you have your reasons for torrenting, people have their reasons for buying films that they love.

Criterion Collection, Arrow Video, Shout Factory Collector's Edition releases, etc. That stuff retains its value for years and can skyrocket in price when it falls out of print. Obviously, generic blu-ray releases of the latest movies rarely ever become valuable, but I'm not talking about that shit.

I'm a physical media fag. I like the simplicity of just grabbing a disc off a shelf and then putting it on and that's that. I like Blu-ray. I have all of the 5.1 home theater shit, front speakers, speakers on the side, a subwoofer. I would love to have one of those rich guy "screening rooms", but I don't. Maybe someday. In the meantime, I can shake the walls of my living room pretty good. And when you've invested in that, you don't even think about torrents. Or at least, I don't. I want the disc. They're usually dependable. Futhermore, I'm one of those dorks who will listen to the commentary tracks and watch the documentary supplments if I really like a movie.

I even go full Boomer and also collect CDs.

As for "collectibility", I don't really care, personally, but this is a big issue if you still like physical media in 2020 because if you really want a movie, it can go out out of print any minute now. The weirdos at blu-ray.com get horny at the idea of limited edition packaging and stupid slipcovers, but I'm not into that. I just want the movie. Fuck that OCD shit. THAT SAID, because physical media is less in demand these days, the companies that put this shit out are making less of them. The result is that physical media today is very collectible. Boutique labels like Vinegar Syndrome and Shout Factory and Criterion will have limited licenses on some movies and when that expires, those discs are gone and your only option is ebay where discs that cost $30 two months ago are now selling for $120.
