In states like Illinois it's really hard and takes a really long time to evict either a tenant or a delinquent lender from a property. If a deadbeat wants to stall or salvage, there are tons of tools available to you. Lawyers for lenders or landlords are expecting it.

This is getting tested by the absolute laziness of Spoony whose active participation in his own foreclosure has been limited entirely to receiving a letter from a process server, which he probably didn't even open. The state has never seen anything like this from a homeowner who isn't senile or demented.

It's funny but the other day I was thinking about him during a conversation about the coming wave of foreclosures (namely that the lockdown is popping a bunch of bubbles that would have popped eventually but doing it simultaneously) and I realized how many times this must happen among Noah's friends and family. Spoony is like the stock "Boomer Response" to every millennial complaint about the economy and the world:

1. He lived at home into his late 20s not because "the job market" or "the housing crisis" but because he didn't want to work for a living and just wanted to play with his toys and vidya and could do that anywhere, so he just sponged off his family.

2. He'll be one of tens or hundreds of thousands who lose their house after the lockdown but it will have nothing to do with the lockdown - just a guy who didn't want to get a job for the last 5 years.

3. He lives in anxiety over medical billth but his ailments are bullshit, he's a perfect anecdote of the hypochondriac who just wants attention and excuses sopping up services on the public dime.

4. He was never able to start a family of his own but it had nothing to do with economics, he just didn't want to share toys with a child and the whole concept of self-sacrifice is completely alien to him.

5. He suffers from hashtag-depression and the instant response is to medicate him, yet he's worse than ever on meds and there is nothing in his life that suggests he suffered from anything but a combination of apathy, laziness and being an asshole.
