Online Table Tops: Who will be my fren?
Been looking into roll20, and some virtual table top app on steam lately with some buddies of mine. Any of you faggots D&D or Shadowrun? Thoughts on best table top, and anyone down for a poorly coordinated possible DHI campaign?

Rifts or GTFO. I only play juicers who punch holes through people.
But I also really like shadowrun

Rifts Rifts or Savage Worlds Rifts? And what editions of D&D or SR, anyways? And has anyone heard of Shadow of the Demon Lord?

I've never played Shadowrun personally but it has caught my interest multiple times over the years just nobody I know wants to play it lol.
Far as D&D, I prefer 3.5e or 5e, but can to 2e (just takes me longer to grasp THACO instead of AC). I've always wanted to try running OG Hommlet, and ToEE. I'm a very shit DM but I've been looking into how to do it for awhile but too timid to pull the trigger.

At least ThAC0 is relatively easy to convert into something that makes sense.

I've been trying to understand THAC0 for years and just can't. Same thing with that stat thing where it's 18/00 or some shit. wtf is the second number for?!!!VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2020 4:23 pmAt least ThAC0 is relatively easy to convert into something that makes sense.

Oldschool D&D was made by a different type of autistic nerd, one that loved charts and unnecessary extra steps instead of just giving you a plain modifier. This whole 18/xx just exists because they wanted the possibility for super strong dudes, but refused to give PCs Strength that could go beyond 18.
Fastest fix I found to make THAC0 less weirdShow
- Look up your THAC0 number
- Give yourself an Attack Bonus at 20 - THAC0
- Now it's basically like 3.X on the player's side

Yeah AC and rolling to see if you beat it just makes way more sense from a physical stand point. "Do I have enough force to hurt this guy despite his armor?"VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2020 5:26 pmOldschool D&D was made by a different type of autistic nerd, one that loved charts and unnecessary extra steps instead of just giving you a plain modifier. Fastest fix I found to make THAC0 less weirdShowTo see if the attack hits, one has to add the monster's AC to the total and see if this final sum is equal to or greater than 20. Or the GM can just switch to ascending ACs (in this case 20 - original AC) to skip this step entirely.

I've never played any P&P and I'm not about to start. Too nerdy for me.

From 2nd to 3rd edition AC rules they simply reverse the sign on the calculations. Base AC is still 10, but each point of armor increases it instead of decreasing it. An equivalent to THAC0 in 3rd edition would be To Hit Armor Class 20, which is just a fancy way of changing the way the numbers are added. In the end, it's the same system with reversed signs and that makes much more sense.CIANigger wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2020 5:54 pmYeah AC and rolling to see if you beat it just makes way more sense from a physical stand point.
